Episode 19 – New Dialogue
Jewel jumps off the park bench, hurries toward me. I could turn my back, run, whatever, but that’s chicken shit…and not me.
“Come sit,” she says pulling me over.
I’m seriously freaked. Gotta get everything on the table, but I hate confrontations, especially after flipping my dick out at her house. What a fucking turkey! It was totally on impulse…seemed like a smooth move at the time.
She looks at me with sad eyes. Wonder if she thinks I’m a perve. “Hunter, I know you’re upset, and you deserve an explanation.”
“I think I get the drift of it,” I mumble.
She rests her hand on my bare leg…it sits there like an invitation, and I’m s-o-o-o fucking horny! Christ!
“Hunter, I’m very attracted to you,” she says, “but I’m not ready to leave Jason. We’ve been together a long time and…admittedly he’s got a lot of issues…but, I want to do the right thing. Relationships are hard work!”
I nod. “Yeah, totally.” See movement in my shorts. Holy crap! It’s deja vu all over again. Gotta quit zoning. Focus on Jewel.
“When we were together in front of the fireplace, it was so nice, and then you unzipped, and it was like I had to decide between you and Jason…but, I just wasn’t ready.”
I roll my eyes. “It was a lame move. I just thought…uh…honestly, that we were, like, gonna go the distance, and I was psyched,..just couldn’t control myself.”
“I guess I should have been clearer.”
I’m thinking: no shit sherlock. Every signal was go. She’s watching me intently…like trying to read my mind. “Jewel,” I say, “Why are you so hung up on Jason’s feelings? He’s like a fucking music groupie who wants fans more than friends.”
“He’s not that bad. I just wish I could figure him out. I keep thinking, if I just say the right words, everything’ll be okay.”
She’s pissing me off. The guy’s a total egomaniac, and it’s fucking obvious….he has an image thing going…probably likes to hook up just to boost his ego. I feel like shaking her. “Jewel…if you’re miserable, what’s the fucking point? Move on.”
“But everybody’s in love with him.”
“But that’s bullshit. It’s all appearance or whatever…he’s into adulation.”
She squeezes my leg and I’m going bat shit…getting the weirdest mixed signals…and her hand is inches from my tormented flesh.
“Hunter,” she says. “You’ll find someone else. My friends think you’re adorable.”
I roll my eyes. “Tell them to spread the word. I need all the help I can get.”
Jewel laughs, and it sort of breaks the ice. The discussion’s run its course, but I’m determined to get in a last word. “So, when will you figure this out? You need to…for your own sanity.”
“Hopefully soon. It’s driving me crazy.”
“I know the feeling.”
Her eyes get a faraway look. “When I saw Jason today…I told him things couldn’t stay the same. I need to feel special….not part of his entourage.”
“Fuck yeah! You deserve it, but if he lets you down, let me know.”
“Okay. You made me see things clearly. Limbo’s terrible. Jason acts like…well, if he commits, I’m like a ball and chain or something.”
I stand up. Realize I can’t talk on and on about Jewel’s indecision. “Don’t make me wait too long,” I say.
Instantly, it’s like I awaken from the dark drama…see the sparkling river…hear kids laughing. No way I want to wallow in endless bullshit. Jewel’s starts talking how impressive I am for not conforming…bucking the system, yada yada…a lot of empty words. “Thanks,” I say, hardly listening.
She ‘s standing next to me. Leans over and gives me a peck on the cheek. “You’re really sweet, and your penis is amazing.”
“A lot of good it does me. Hey, we have an excuse to get together. I owe you money.”
“You don’t need an excuse. You’re a very special person.”
“Yeah, right,” I say. “Come on. I’ll walk you to the corner.”
